Account Reset

Accepted Answer

An account reset allows you to recreate your account if you've lost access, however you will lose all your data and is it a method of last resort. Before proceeding here, first reference the Locked Out of Account article to see if a reset is needed.

If you do need to reset your account, please submit a ticket with information about your situation.

ID Verification

In order to ensure an imposter isn't taking over your account, we may ask for various identity proofs to ensure that you're the proper account owner. If you are unable to perform these proofs, there will be a wait period to reset your account to give the actual owner time to intervene in the case of an attack.

Burner is a feature that allows instantly calling or chatting with non-Cyph-users. Anyone you chat with can remain anonymous, Cyph's end-to-end encrypted Castle messaging is still used, and the contents of a session are lost forever as soon as you close it.

How To Start a Burner Session

Log in to Cyph

Open app or navigate to cyph.app

Go to Messaging

If on mobile, go to Contacts

Go to New Burner Chat, located at the top of the contacts list

Send the link displayed to someone you want to communicate securely with

Once someone navigates to the link you provide, a secure connection will establish

Once connected, you can chat, use video call, and send files (up to 100 MB on Desktop, up to 25 MB on mobile)

Question 3

Quickly Authenticate a New Device via Activation Code

Cyph allows you to easily sign into new devices without having to type in that long master key again!

While signed in, go to Settings > Activate Another Device
On the new device you with to sign in on, click Use Activation Code
Either accept camera permissions and scan the QR code, or use the copy button to copy and then paste the auth code manually (e.g. if signing into the desktop app from the browser)
Wait for a code to appear on both ends
Click the checkbox in the original session if they match
Your device should now be activated!

Receiving Anonymous Messages

To use this feature, you will need to have Anonymous Messages enabled in Settings.

To check to make sure this feature is enabled:

Log in to Cyph

Open app or navigate to cyph.app

Select Settings
Select the drop-down next to Enable/Disable Features
Make sure the slider for Anonymous Inbox is turned to the On position (purple slider)

To turn it off, move the slider to the Off position (gray slider)

To check your Anonymous Inbox, just go to Messaging.

The Anonymous Inbox is opened immediately upon selecting it.

NOTE: If you don't have any anonymous messages, you will see: You have no messages.

You can SEND an anonymous message to someone that you know, if they have the feature enabled, by going to the following URL: https://cyph.me/ username.

Replace username with the username of the user, such as https://cyph.me/johntitor.

NOTE: If you are logged in, it will just take you to the profile of the user. This will be considered a "normal message".

To send an Anonymous Message:

Once you have gone to the url of the user, select the Envelope Icon (New Message)
Provide the requested information to send a message

Subject

Account Verification Period

After registering your account, you'll have limited access to solo only features (e.g. Vault file storage, passwords, and notes) until your public key is signed by Cyph. This process allows for our automatic ID verification process, which ensures that you're not just having an encrypted conversation, but also that it's with the right person. This protects Cyph users from Man-In-The-Middle and impersonation attacks.

The signing process should take no more than 48 hours to complete. As batches of accounts are generally processed multiple times per day, it typically will occur within 12-24 hours, but often happens faster.

Again, while you're restricted from interacting with other users until you're verified, you're still able to set up your profile and start using the Vault.
